| The Kulshan Club: Architectural Details According to the book The Arts and Crafts Movement in the Pacific Northwest "The popularity of the bungalow style for private clubs was no where better expressed than in the Kulshan Club House … designed by local architects William Cox and F. Stanley Piper in 1909.” Piper was born and trained in England and designed a number of Bellingham landmarks, including the Herald and Bellingham National Bank Buildings.
The building has a ground story clad with horizontal boards and battens and is further embellished with wooden panels, quoin-like at the corners. The upper story is clad with cedar shingles, the bottom course of which has fancy butts. The hilly site allowed for a building of several floors extending an entire block in width, accommodating ample meeting and dining rooms and a billiard room. Arts and Crafts wallpapers and friezes embellished the walls.
