 Fairhaven News.....papers!
November is a big month for Fairhaven's historic newspapers.   
Coming next year on MABEL.  Western Washington University's Multi-media Archives Based Electronic Library.
Northwest Passage (1969 to 1986) has been working with Western Libraries to get the Northwest Passage Newspaper digitized and available for free.  OCR will allow the newspaper to be searchable by Keyword.  
Fairhaven Herald (1890 - 1903)

Western Libraries have received news that the Fairhaven Herald will also be scanned and available online.   This newspaper started in March of 1890 with important news of the boom times, and later the downturn in the volatile 1890s in Fairhaven.

Fairhaven is also rich with history west of the Historic District!  
New articles by Gayle Helgoe provide historical context and overview of this area below 10th Street.   Don't miss her wonderful essay on Pacific American Fisheries.   


The Radical 60s
The "Sixties" generally refer to the tumultuous decade between the mid-60s and mid-70s.
In Fairhaven, it included the "Hippies Years" as the Seattle Times 1971 headline asked... "Bellingham....Hippie Mecca of the West?"
Current focus is Northwest Passage, Bellingham's underground newspaper and the history of the the Community Co-Op, which started in the Morgan Block at 10th and Harris almost 50 years ago.  Additional articles, photos and personal stories to come soon.
